Thanksgiving

Spent holiday on St. John. Breakfast was a phenomenal Strawberry Banana Smoothie $12 made with Soy Milk at Caneel Bay. So nice they use biodegradable containers...
their grounds are immaculate with lots of interesting flora. I appreciated that they labeled some mysterious plants species like this Fishtail Palm Tree...
an unlabeled Berry Bush with gorgeous blossoms...
that turn into these Berries. Gotta find out what this is...
next was Trunk Bay for swimming and use of showers (Caneel doesnt have showers for guests). Drove down to Coral Bay and enjoyed the herds of Goats wandering freely. This group had an Egret that was following them everywhere...
more mystery flowers...
these yellow blossoms are probably the most beautiful I have ever seen...
returned to Caneel Bay for lunch. The Hummus with Grilled Pineapple $14 to start...
My Jerk Tofu Sandwich $16. The Hummus was good, but the Jerk Tofu and Fries were just so-so. The Mr said his Grilled Vegetable Sandwich was also disappointing. Surprising for such an upscale resort to have such mediocre food. Buns were taken for the Chickens...
saw a rainbow on the ferry ride home...
Dinner was some super delicious Pepper Steak and Bowties from Natural Livity. Now they know how to cook up some great grub...
watched 'The Wedding Ringer' with Kevin Hart. Best Thanksgiving I ever had. Looking forward to reading about everyone else's. Bye for now.

Random Stuff

I have been eating lots of great food and taking lots of pictures, but not enough to cobble together a full post. So just to keep things alive here, below are some pics of various unrelated things...
this Bananquit sat for a long time in reflection after a morning bath. Long enough to finally get my camera and go outside to photograph it...
I have been going through more than ten pounds of sugar a week feeding these guys...
some Vino Tinto perfect for family and friends over the holidays...
I bought a Star Fruit Tree with a big Star Fruit on it. Too nice to pick and eat...
Boxed Water is new to me, but I agree, it seems better all around...
Someone apparently moved here from New Jersey and brought a little piece of home down with them...
another baby Lizard caught inside and hand carried outside. Really loved this little thing, regret not trying to keep it as a pet...
These flowers were on a huge fruit tree near the University. The blog is still alive, I wouldnt just abandon it, maybe will force out some more content over the long weekend. Bye for now.

Bucky's Hot Dog Cart

A block from Market Square at Droningens Gade and Gutters Gade is Bucky's Hot Dog Cart...
I had to come to the Virgin Islands to finally get a vegan hot dog from a cart...
service was extremely friendly, but I took lunch to go...
Enjoyed at home. Wasnt a Field Roast Frank, so I assume it was a Worthington Link. Very delicious.
Also around the Island, Banana Trees are apparently going to begin producing because farmers have cleared all the brush around them. I will keep an eye on their progression...
Yesterday, the Queen Mary 2 docked at Crown Bay. Cruising on this ship is on my bucket list. It was a thrill to be so close...
in bloom this week...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

Sandwiches

On The Loaf is a cute little sub place right outside Charlotte Amalie...
Because the bread is baked fresh, 'The Veggie Lover' $10.95 Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Olives, Pickles, Peppers, Olive Oil, Vinegar, S&P (plus I got Jalapenos) doesnt need anything extra like faux meat or cheese to improve it. The Bread and fresh ingredients more than satisfy...
plus they've got Curly Fries. Nuff said...
One of my most favorite Sandwiches back on the mainland was the Andy's TLT from True Food Kitchen. The below TLT was enjoyed by the Mr. back on October 28th...
he returned here on Monday with a big surprise...he had TFK pack up a TLT to go for me (on Saturday, not two weeks ago)...
I was unable to professionally reassemble it but damn if it didnt taste exactly the same. So incredibly delicious. Now that I know the Sandwich can be transported successfully, I can look forward to tasting this heavenly creation again in my life. Wonder what else I can have again? Common Market's Vegan Reuben perhaps...
TFK also gave a generous portion of Kale Salad that was unbelievably fresh. I have yet to find a Kale Salad as great down here. Dont know how they do it...
the Uncle Eddie's PB CC Cookies that were sent via the post office didnt fare as well...
just Island food in the future. Bye for now.

Fresh Coconut Water

It took a little over four months, but I finally synced up with the Coconut Guy in Tutu...
If I had known he provided empty jugs, I would have stopped months ago...
this is my jug he is filling... $25 for a gallon...
the below Coconut was being prepped for someone to imbibe right there, $2. You can see he removes just the top for drinking purposes...
whereas to fill the jugs, he hacks a big V shape in the center of the nut. Coconut water was being splashed all over, the nuts and their jelly are then just flung aside, but I guess it is too much effort to trying to salvage the innards...
a cold glass (condensation forming immediately) later enjoyed at home...
Here are some pics taken last Sunday at Phantasea Botanical Garden...
Oncidium Ampliatum...
a mystery orchid...
no clue what this was, but it was happy to see me.
Below is a little Bananquit that flew into our sliding glass door and then just sat there stunned for about five minutes before thankfully flying away.
Back with lots more soon. Bye for now.

Love Livin

Love Livin isnt mentioned much here because they mainly do the same menu every week and I am trying not to repeat myself. Their food is 100% vegan which saves me constantly asking, "Is it vegan?" A pointless question I've come to learn. Mondays at Love Livin are Soup & Salad, Tuesdays can be a surprise, like this incredibly delicious combo of Soy Chunks and String Beans I enjoyed this week...
Wednesday is Roti day. Their Soy Chunks version made me understand why people like Roti...
Thursday is the most important day of the week...
I find the prices quite reasonable for the quality and quantity of food...
Friday is Stir-Fry which I've shown before, so instead, here are some Chickpeas and Cabbage from last week...
they make fantastic Smoothies starting at 9am. Below is a Kale Smoothie with Banana and Coconut. Perfect for when you think you are gonna drop dead from the heat...
Spirulina Popcorn is $5/quart bag...Lately, I've been doing a bag a day...
If you have a sweet tooth like me, there are Whole Wheat Coconut Tarts $4...
another plus is that Iguanas are usually hanging around the premises...
here is a beautiful flower blooming around the island these past few weeks...
So Love Livin might not get mentioned much, but I am almost always eating something from there. Bye for now.
