A Sandwich And A Pizza

Ten days since my last post, and the two culinary highlights have been another Pizza carried out from Thirteen...
and a Hummus and Veggie Sandwich I brought home from Baked In The Sun on St. John. Got a little squooshed on the ferry ride back, but tasted fantastic. Cant wait to get another...
to make up for what this post lacks in interesting grub, below are action pics of Molly rough housing with her little brother, Calvin...
once they finished shredding this box...
they moved on to some serious tug-of-war...
followed by paw to paw combat. They go at it morning, noon and night...
below is a sign that amused us. I am sure many folks have wanted to climb inside the ice chest to cool off...
Probably showcase some recent underwater pics in my next post. Bye for now.

More Weekend Food and More Fish

'Thirteen' is a restaurant near our house that is too high falutin for a website. The Mr. frequently gets Pizza to go from there and on Friday, they agreed to make a cheeseless Pizza as well. Really excellent (probably better with cheese), but a great new option for me to get...
below is their carryout menu, which offers some Edamame and a couple Salads that can be veganized. I will try those in the future (the Salads, not the Edamame)...
lunch yesterday was at Virgilios. Below is my 'Spaghetti Peasant Style' with Mushrooms, Garlic, Dijon Mustard,White Wine and Tomato Sauce...
as you can see, the interior of the restaurant is really fancy, which is why we usually get carryout. They even have a copy of the Mona Lisa. Service was outstanding, we felt welcome in shorts and t-shirts, a great place with great food.
some wild dogs we saw that would not let me get close. I keep saying I need to carry string-cheese in the car to lure these loose dogs...
here are the few pics that came out from yesterdays dive...a File Fish...
a Honeycomb Cow Fish...
a Sea Lettuce Sea Slug...
new vegan items procured at Plaza Extra today...Bee-less Honey $8.99 and Flavored Coconut Milks $1.69 each. Any recs for what to do with the Honey would be greatly appreciated...
Calvin swam at two different beaches today, in the morning with me and in the afternoon with his Dad. Still doesnt make a dent in his energy level but he is getting really confident in the water. We are proud.
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

Veggie Plus

Like Natural Food Grocery and Deli, Veggie Plus is another place I was turned off to when we first moved down here. The name is misleading, copious amounts of meat is what is primarily offered. It is a Spanish restaurant, so there was, and still is, a language barrier in terms what items are vegan.  'Cash only' I have since become accustomed to, as well as all the styrofoam and plastic bags involved with carryout places...
so last week I went to the pet store next to the restaurant hoping get more toys to tire out Calvin. While I was in the pet store, the Mr. wandered into Veggie Plus. When we met up later, he insisted I come re-check out the restaurant, and this visit was much more to my liking. The faux meats were prominently displayed, but far away from the real stuff...
they had Green Bananas, which I have come to love...
they work to keep the Salad Bar safe from 'extra protein'. We liked what we saw and opted to get some grub to go...
below is an order of their Soy Chunks and Green Banana. I have gone back twice since then to get more...
below are the Chunks with Pasta and Veggies. The Okra/Spinach combo was too much Okra, so the pups helped me to not waste it. The Mr. has been practicing the Spanish word for 'butter' and, like Natural Food Grocery and Deli, carryout from Veggie Plus is now in regular rotation...
back to Calvin. The pet store had no toys for dogs, except smoked bones. They said to just give him a Coconut to play with, so we picked one up at the grocery store. He viciously attacked it upon sight (as seen below) but soon lost interest (except for occasionally rolling it around a little). We got other toys at the grocery store that have been more successful, but are typically decimated within a couple days...
on Wednesday, he finally got his bandage off, so yesterday we to took him to the beach where he went swimming and ran around like a lunatic. Didnt make even a tiny dent in his energy level, but at least he is learning to attack Molly and not us...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

Weekend Food and Fish

I have written about the Mango and Papaya at Gladys' before, but yesterday, Pauline, Gladys' sister, served it with Lime. She said Papaya is better with Lime and, as usual, she was right. I will never be able to eat Papaya without Lime again...
did the Avocado Toast as usual...
driving past Brewers Bay, we saw a couple selling Boiled Peanuts with Greens...
seemed high time I tried Boiled Peanuts, so they gave me a free sample...
but they were too hot to eat right then...
so I got an order to go for $5. Very interesting in a good way. The Peanuts are soft inside, but the juices from the Spicy Greens get also in there. Pretty messy eating, probably a skill to it...
I also bought a dozen Oatmeal Cranberry Cookies for $5. These were great as well.
a lot of restaurants were closed today, but fortunately Greengos was open. The Veggie Burrito $12 really hit the spot...
below are some pics taken Saturday morning....
a school of Blue Tang Fish...
so cute swimming away...
and below is a Lion Fish, an invasive Asian species. They dont mind folks getting close cuz those spines are seriously venomous.
Lots more to come. Bye for now.

My Week Of Lunches

Monday's lunch at Fresh Bistro. My Grilled Vegetable Sandwich $15 was the best I ever had, which is saying a lot since there was no cheese or aoli. Wouldnt you know, now that I have discovered this Sandwich, they are closing for the month of September...
nothing else came with the Sandwich, not even a garnish, so I got a side of Fries $10. Expensive lunch, but very high quality...
Tuesday, I carried out from Sabroso. Tofu Stir Fry $14, very well-seasoned, not overly spicy, and felt great after eating it...
Wednesday and Thursday was the Cashew Tofu $15 carried out from Saki House. How they make it so good is a mystery to me that I am thinking I dont want solved...
Diving is scheduled for tomorrow, so I made De Coal Pot happen today. Veggie Delight with Fries, Steamed Vegetables and Ground Provisions $15.95 and so much there is always lots to take home...
So many great places to eat on this Island. Will hopefully experience more of them over the long weekend and report back Monday. Bye for now.
