Tortola Revisited

Took the Fast Ferry to the West End of Tortola yesterday to see how it would work out seeing the Island by renting our own car rather than hiring a taxi driver to supposedly show us around like we did last time...
We rented a Suzuki from Denzil Cline for $55 and went all the way to the East End of the Island and back. First stop was Callwood Rum Distillery...
got a little tutorial on their various Rums...from youngest to oldest etc...
bought a bottle of the Spiced for $20 and hit the road...
if you are ever in Tortola during a full moon, you MUST go to Bomba's Shack for their Full Moon Party...
we went many moons ago. The Mr. reminded me we did Mushrooms there and I do recall eating some dried brown things out of a little baggie, but they didnt affect me. People have such a great time, they take off their undies to leave as decoration...
saw so many Pelicans...
as well as Goats...
had lunch at Islands Beach Bar...
situated at the seemingly lovely Sugar Mill Hotel...
fantastic view...
another Pelican posed right in front of us...
had to get a Painkiller, it was very well made...
my Greek Salad without the feta was excellent...
as was the Hummus and Pita that came with it...
all in all, a successful day....
Lots more of life back on St. Thomas still to come. Bye for now.

A Good Friday

The Mr. had today off, so I took a vacation day as well. Went to Bleuwater at the Ritz Carlton to see what they had for breakfast...
it was an AYCE buffet that is $22 if you dont get the hot foods ($35 if you do get the hot foods)...
the Grilled Artichokes were gone by the time I came back to take this pic...
none of the sweet breads were vegan...
I could have partaken of Champagne I think, but just had a big glass of Orange Juice...
they had a bunch of these Coconut Milk Yogurts, but, again, I didnt partake...
cute Syrups...
I was overwhelmed and screwed up, just toasted a Bagel and put Grilled Onions and Tomatoes on it with Mushrooms and Olives on the side. Next time I will know better how to pick and choose...
on the plus side, I finally saw an infinity pool, so I can knock that off my bucket list. The chairs on the beach destroy the illusion a little...
around 3pm we went to Amalia Cafe. Enjoyed a glass of the Sangria...
their rolls are heavenly...
as is the Gazpacho...
my Ensalada Catalina without the egg, tuna and ham. That is a boiled Potato on the left. Really refreshing Salad...
A dainty Buttercup watching over us at home....
So it was a very good day for me. Bye for now.

Sweets

The heat hasn't killed my sweet tooth, but it has changed what sweets can survive in the heat long enough to be eaten. I bought this Artisana Coconut Cocoa Bliss because it was on sale for $8.99....
super incredible! One of the most delicious things I've ever tasted...
Carrot Cake is a big item down here. I do buy it, but am concerned that these arent the entire list of ingredients in the product...
sure tastes great, so that makes me doubly suspicious...
another item I eat a lot of are Melodie's Cookies...
the Carob are my favorite...
but the other flavors are excellent as well..
they are currently being sold at Natural Livity for $2.50 per package of three...
I have never seen Melodie, so I am trusting that, again, these are all the actual ingredients in the Cookies...
hard to believe...
This small Guava Tart was another tasty dessert...
the crust was so fresh tasting. Would be great with coffee if I still imbibed...
but the real point of this post was that I stumbled upon Daiya Cheesecake at The Fruit Bowl!
this piece is actually very tiny but was enough to satisfy my Cheesecake cravings. Not as good as Vegan Treat's Cheesecake, but better than I could make.
Now just waiting on the Ben and Jerry's. Bye for now.

More Good Stuff

What I have enjoyed recently: 'Spicy Tofu Stir Fry' with Mixed Vegetables and Plaintains at Sabroso. Emphasis on 'spicy'...
Sabroso is a cute little place that closed the door and turned on the AC when we came to eat there. We didnt ask them to. Very thoughtful. I can see why this place is so popular...
I still get excited by Banana flowers...
they are so big...almost like prehistoric times...
Molly Molones thought outside the box with their vegetarian platter, 'The Boxty Sampler', Potato Cake Wedges, Zucchini, Beets and Hummus. Very tasty...
loved this lttle family exploring the restaurant...
nice well-made Painkiller...
a whole bunch of Egrets...
The 'Caribbean Vegetable Stir-Fry' at Jen's Island Deli is unusually delicious....
their Painkillers are strong as well...
below is a baby Hawk that was perched right outside our balcony one evening...
Hydrangeas? I dunno...
Lots more to come. Bye for now.
